␡Minecraft is a game about breaking and placing blocks. Creating a Mojang account is easy.
In a browser, go to www.minecraft.net (Figure 4.2).

You are taken to the page where you'll set up your Mojang account before you purchase the game (Figure 4.3).
Enter your email address and password. Enter your password again in the Repeat Password field to verify they are identical. You will also be asked your name and birth date, as well as three security questions to verify your identity should you forget your password.
Note that children under the age of 13 must have a parent or guardian create an account for them (though this is something many kids get around simply by changing their age on the form).
You or your children will be using this email address to log on to Minecraft, so if you are planning to have more than one Minecraft account, you need to register for individual Mojang accounts as well. Reduce image size 2 3 2.
Select the check box at the bottom of the page to accept Mojang's terms and conditions and privacy policy (links are available for both), and then click the Register button.
Once you enter your information, you are directed to a page stating that you have received a verification email.
Click the link in the Mojang email, and a new page will open (Figure 4.4).

This page has a clearly marked button for redeeming a prepaid gift card or gift code, but no immediately obvious place to actually purchase the game.
Buying the game is pretty straightforward. You will need a credit card or PayPal account, as well as your Mojang account information.
To get to Minecraft.net directly from the Mojang page where you created your account, click the drop-down menu in the upper right, hover your mouse pointer over Games, and then click Minecraft.

Now that you are registered, you will need to log in.
Click the Buy Now button (Figure 4.5).
You are redirected back to the Minecraft Store page (Figure 4.6). You'll see that the price is listed in Euros, but if you are in the United States, it will be converted to US dollars once you move through to the purchase page.

On the purchase page, you will see the retail price, as well as a link to system recommendations (Figure 4.7). You'll also choose whether to buy the game for yourself or as a gift.
Your payment options list only Visa, MasterCard, and PayPal, but there is a more extensive list of options provided via the link below these choices.

Enter your billing information, and click Pay. You may be asked for a verification of your card. Follow the directions on your screen to complete your purchase.

Redeeming a gift code or gift card is a matter of a few quick steps. Instructions are on the back of the gift card. Click Check Availability to see if your chosen name is available. If it is, click Choose Name. If your chosen name is not available, try another until you find a free name.
Once you've selected your name, you'll be asked if you are certain this is the choice you want.
Double-check the spelling, and be very sure before you proceed, because you will not be able to change it. Click the Choose Name button (Figure 4.8).

If you want to play Minecraft online with your friends, you will more than likely need a server to do so. While it is possible to play for free, these free servers often tend to be unreliable or have limited features and restrictions, which, unfortunately, can cause a lot of frustration during what should be a fun and relaxing game.
The great thing about a renting a Minecraft server is that you're able to make the rules and add features as you wish while adding a stress and lag free environment.
Hosting a Minecraft server will cost you anywhere from $5 to $100 every month, and the costs will greatly depend on the number of players that you want to join the server, the plugins/mods you install and the company you use. A four-person server, for example, could cost $7 per month, while a 16-player server could cost upwards of $20 per month. If you want to host unlimited players, it could cost upwards of $100+ per month, depending on the amount of memory you need. As a general rule, be prepared to budget $5 to $10 per gigabyte of memory required.

On this Reddit.com thread, they discussed the costs of running a Minecraft server, and according to most, they said the costs could greatly vary from $20 to more than $1,000 per month for a server that's able to support 50 players. With a decent host, however, a few said it's best to budget $40 to $100 per month for a reliable 50 player server.
Some hosting companies, if they offer an add-on pack, may charge a one-time fee in order to set it up. These fees often range from as little as $10 to more than $50, depending on the complexity of the modpack. One modpack, in particular — the extreme create-a-modpack — for instance, designs up to 150 mods and the hosting company will install it for $35. There are plenty of Minecraft servers that you can join for free; however, when joining another server, there are a lot of disadvantages. For starters, the server will not be under your control. With that being said, the admin can boot you or even ask for donations to allow you to play. Secondly, if you built something that you enjoyed and that particular server disappeared, your hard work could be gone. Lastly, a public server is just that — public. This allows strangers to come in and harass, smash your stuff and/or annoy you while playing. Running your own server will allow you to control things like this and to only invite certain people to play.
A good server company, when you choose one, should have hundreds, if not thousands of addon options you can add to your server when activated. Before signing up, see what your options are and if they meet your expectations.

Microsoft has announced a new storefront for selected user-made Minecraft content on mobile and Windows 10, which will go live alongside the game's 1.1 Discovery update this spring.
Applicable only to the C++ 'Bedrock Engine' editions of the game - that's to say, not to console or the original Java PC version - it lets approved creators and teams sell their Minecraft maps, skins and other assets using a virtual currency, Minecraft Coins, the idea being to boost the game's community of entrepreneurial artists while making it easier for players to track down the best Minecraft maps.
The storefront will launch with nine big-name partners - Blockception, Blockworks, Eneija Silverleaf, Imagiverse, Noxcrew, Polyamps, Qwertyuiop The Pie, Razzelberry Fox and Sphax - and a mix of adventure maps, texture packs and mini-games. Microsoft will add new creators to the listings every month. Anyone can register to have their work included on the storefront, but you'll need a business license to apply.

Microsoft says it is 'working toward making content players buy available on multiple devices as well, enabled by a free Xbox Live account', but for the moment, it seems, you can only buy content for use on one device. Each individual piece of content will cost at least $1.99.
According to Microsoft, all this 'gives our partners a platform to share their creations and earn a living from their work without requiring a full game update each time new content is added, as well as added flexibility for creators to set prices as they choose using a standard currency'.
